So. Has anyone out there actually bothered to examine these wings properly? Considering the inevitable amount of comments they get to one degree or another, I'm guessing none of you have them naturally. It doesn't seem like anyone has bothered to do a medical study, either, if your primary source of information on them is anything to go by.

If you'd like to prove me pleasantly wrong, go right ahead. It would be nice to underestimate someone for a change. Otherwise, well. I'm taking volunteers.

I will remember that then. The gear smiths of my world call it science but they may just be trying to sound important.

It is a common tactic of humans to classify engineering as science in an effort to make what they're doing sound more like interesting work and less like boring, repetitive construction.

I really don't know. A group of them helped my brother in the civil war so I approved funding of a bunch of experiments. That's really all I know about it all. Most of my training has been with magic and politics.

And what sort of experiments would those be?

Oh, just for devices like elevators and maybe a few more bridges that moved up and down so big boats could get past them. There was also talk on some weapons designs but they hadn't gotten to me yet.

You know, things to make life easier for the people for the most part!

That still sounds much more like engineering than science to me. Not that I can say I'm surprised.

Well, perhaps its simply getting the tools sufficiently advanced so they can move the art up? I'm not entirely certain, but I mean at least its not like that one person who glued toast buttered side up to the backs of cats to try and create a flying machine when he dropped one.

... I think the entire world just got stupider for so much as sharing the same space with an idea such as that.

He requested actual funding for that. It seemed like a waste. But its okay, I put that money towards repairs of our primary dam.

I see you are not entirely hopeless, at least. In that case, if you want to learn, I just might be able to teach you. [ Without accidentally killing her. Really, nothing is more frustrating than when a death doesn't teach GLaDOS anything beyond "Test subject was highly, painfully stupid." ]

Well, if its something that would help my people I'd be very honored to take any instruction I could get.

That part is your responsibility. I'm simply willing to give you hands-on experience with the sciences. [ And testing. Lots and lots of testing. ]

Are you a teacher at the school then?

No. Such a thing would be far too much a waste of my time.

That does make sense, it kind of sounds like the school is where people who have given up go.

Well. It's far too generic an environment. Customized learning has been shown to be much more effective in almost all cases, and testing gives better results in isolated circumstances.

Customized learning. Somehow that does sound better! Like to the needs of the student and teacher.

Yes. Unfortunately it's very resource-intensive, so it can't be done in all cases.

True, so you're hired on by the very wealthy as a teacher where you come from then?
